Before coming to UChicago, I spent two years at UVA. I crocheted this piece as a way to hold onto the happiness and ease I felt there. I wanted to make something genuinely warm, so I chose a thick blanket, built from UVA’s signature colors—blue and orange. The slow, repetitive process became its own kind of remembering: each stitch marking time, routine, and small moments of care. UVA gave me a sense of warmth and belonging, but it also taught me what it means to offer that feeling outward.
